Valencia/Alicante
Between the cities Valencia and Alicante lies the famous coast called the Costa Blanca, the white coast. Of course everyone knows the seaside resort Benidorm once an unknown fishing village. Through the favourable position on a sheltered bay Benidorm became since the sixties the classic example of a seaside resort which development completely escalated through the tourist industry. On the other hand the sky is nearly at all times blue and the sea water has a delicious temperature. Mainly the North part of the Costa Blanca has a favourable climate through the protection of the Sierra de Aitana, the mountain that stops the cold winds from the North. If you want to taste the original Spanish atmosphere you have to go to the inland just behind the coast. In the mountain landscape around Alcoy nothing has been changed for ages. Nearby the coast you can also find beautiful places like Altea. The white houses are as it were placed upon an incline and from far you can enjoy the twilight from the blue grey mountains of the Sierra Bernia. The curved streets leads you to the high-up situated church with a blue glazed dome from where you enjoy have a magnificent view over Altea and the arising rock Peýon de Ifach at the horizon. The city Alicante is actually also a famous big seaside resort where you can stroll along the Spanish Esplanade, a charming promenade from the marina. Valencia that is famous because of the paella is one of the most lively cities of Spain. At the South of Valencia lies La Albufera, the largest lagoon of Spain where the rice for the paella is cultivated.
